How to Talk to Your Teen About THP Without It Feeling Forced
One of the most commonly asked questions from parents about The Happiness Path (THP) program is: “I love the sound of this, I wish I had something like this as a teen. But how do I bring it up to my daughter without her shutting it down right away?”
And I love this question, because it comes from such a caring and collaborative place. You’re not looking to “fix” her and send her away for a solution, you’re wanting to walk alongside your teen in a way that feels empowering, not forced. That kind of support already sets the stage for something really positive.
My biggest tip? Approach it with curiosity, not pressure. Give your teen some choices: Do they want to check out the FAQ section or a short video about the program on their own or with you first? Do they want to chat with someone from our team beforehand to see if it feels like a fit (this option is pretty popular)? Do they have initial questions that are important to them?
It’s also really helpful to connect the program to what matters to them right now. If they’ve been feeling overwhelmed with school, sharing how THP helps with stress and intense emotions makes a lot of sense. If friendships have been tough, talking about how THP offers a safe and fun space to build connections with other girls in a way that’s low-pressure and supportive is important. Teens are perceptive and often way more willing when they feel heard and involved in the decision. If your daughter has her concerns addressed, is able to have choice, and can see how it will actually make her life a little easier, lighter, or more fun, now we’re talking.
