Supporting Teen Girl Athletes Beyond Anxiety To Feel Confident and Capable. Meet Chantal: Therapist (And Human)
If you’re reading this, there’s a good chance you’re a parent. Maybe you’re looking for support for your teen daughter.
Maybe you’re trying to help her navigate anxiety, confidence struggles, stress, injury recovery, friendships, performance pressure, or one of the many challenges that seem to come with growing up today.
Or maybe you’re simply curious about who I am and what I do.
A Registered Psychologist, a mom, an athlete, a traveller, and someone who genuinely believes that young people are far more capable, resilient, and resourceful than they often give themselves credit for.
I also know that being a teen girl today is not easy.
The pressure to perform, fit in, achieve, look a certain way, succeed in school, succeed in sport, make good decisions, and somehow have everything figured out can feel overwhelming.
That’s one of the reasons I love the work I do.
Every day, I get to sit with incredible young women athletes who are learning who they are, discovering their strengths, and finding their footing in a world that asks a lot of them.
And honestly?I find that process pretty inspiring.
Why I Love Supporting Teen Girl Athletes
One of the things that people don’t always know about me is that I don’t just work with athletes, I am one.
Sport has been one of the greatest gifts in my life.
It has taught me confidence, resilience, teamwork, discipline, courage, and self-trust. Luckily, I’ve been introduced to amazing people and communities. It’s been challenging, humbling, and helped me grow.
My heart has also been broken a few times.
I’ve dealt with injuries, setbacks, disappointment, and those difficult moments when you’re not sure if you’ll get back to doing the thing you love most.
That’s part of why I care so deeply about supporting teen girl athletes.
I understand that when a young athlete gets injured, struggles with confidence, or feels overwhelmed by pressure, it’s rarely just about the sport.
It’s about
Identity.
Belonging.
Learning how to trust yourself when things don’t go according to plan.
Those are life skills that extend far beyond the field, court, rink, or gym.
A Different Approach to Therapy for Teens
Outside of work, my family and I spend part of our time travelling in our RV. We love exploring new places, meeting interesting people, spending time in nature, and creating a life that feels intentional. That spirit of curiosity shows up in my work too.
I don’t believe therapy needs to feel stiff or intimidating.
People grow when they feel safe, understood, and accepted. And healing starts with connection.
Some of the most meaningful conversations happen when we stop focusing on what’s “wrong” and start paying attention to what’s already strong. That’s why my work is so strengths-focused.
When I meet a teen, I want to know who she is beyond the anxiety, the injury, the stress, or the challenge that brought her into my world.
- What makes her laugh?
- What lights her up?
- What does she care about?
- What are the strengths she doesn’t even realize she has yet?
Those are often the places where healing begins.
Using Creativity to Build Confidence and Self-Trust
I also love bringing creativity into the process.
Not because anyone needs to be artistic, but because drawing, writing, doodling, creating, or simply looking at a problem from a different angle can unlock insights that talking alone cannot.
Everything I offer is an invitation. A chance to experiment. Get curious. And learn something new about yourself.
Watching Teen Girls Discover Their Strengths
At the end of the day, I feel incredibly lucky to do this work.
I get to watch young people grow into themselves. To witness confidence emerge where self-doubt once lived. I get to see girls discover their voice, trust themselves more deeply, and recognize strengths they didn’t know they had.
These moments never get old for me!
So whether you’re a parent wondering if support might help your daughter, or a teen who somehow found her way to this blog, I’m so glad you’re here.
I hope this gives you a little glimpse into who I am, what I value, and why I care so deeply about helping young people thrive.
Because every teen deserves someone who sees their strengths, believes in their potential, and reminds them that they are capable of so much.
